Seminars:

The Departments of Sanskrit & Philosophy of Jhargram Raj College jointly organised a One-Day Inter-Departmental Seminar on "Pramanas in Nyaya and Vaisesika System", on the 22nd of January, 2016. The Department proudly hosted Dr. Sk. Sabir Ali, Assistant Professor, Department of Sanskrit, West Bengal State University, and Dr. Arun Mahata, Assistant Professor, Department of Philosophy, Jadavpur University, as resource persons on the occasion.

An International Seminar was organised in March 2016 in collaboration with the Departments of Bengali, English and Philosophy. The theme of the International Seminar was: ‘Women in Texts’. The Seminar saw participation from many enthusiastic academics and research scholars from institutions across the country. The Department was pleased to host Dr. Mau Das Gupta, Professor, University of Calcutta, as a Keynote Speaker on the occasion.

The Department of Sanksrit, Jhargram Raj College, organized a State Level Seminar on “Alamkarashastre Shabdatattvam Abhinayatattvamca”, on Tuesday, the 10th of December, at Jhargram Raj College. The Plenary Speaker on the occasion, was Dr. Pratim Bhattacharya, Assistant Professor, Department of Sanskrit, Sukumar Sengupta Mahavidyalaya, Keshpur, Paschim Medinipur.
Cultural Programmes:

World Sanskrit Day – "Sanskrit Divas"– is observed across the world on the occasion of 'Shravan Poornima', that is, the full-moon day in the month of Shravana in the Hindu calendar. This date coincides with the celebration of 'Raksha Bandhan' across the country, and is therefore an occasion which promotes a sense of attachment within any community. The Department of Sanskrit is committed tothe cause of the promotion and preservation of the language and literature of Sanskrit, and this day is observed annually by the Department and its students. A cultural programme is held, where students take an active part in highlighting the richness of the Sanskrit language and literature.

The students of the Department organise a Cultural Programme to bid Farewell to the final year students and to welcome the new students who have joined the department in the first year. Students of the department take charge of organising these programmes and showcase their many talents through their cultural activities.

The students pay their respects to their teachers by organising a cultural programme on the occasion of Teachers Day (5th September). Teachers of the department are felicitated byt he students, and students pay their respects to their teachers on this occasion. The date may be subject to changes in accordance with the academic calendars of the college and Vidyasagar University.
Wall Magazine:
The department encourages students to display their creativity by showcasing their original art works, essays, poetry and short stories. The departmental Wall Magazine finds pride of place at the entrance of Departmental Teachers’ room, and is on display throughout the year.
